BOOK REVIEWS

FRAG's review of the books and publications that help you make a highly detailed and accurate model.

TIGER I ON THE WESTERN FRONT by Jean Restayn.  HISTORIE & COLLECTIONS Publishers, 144 pages, hard cover - An excellent book that is full of period black & white photographs.  The photo's are large and clear which is invaluable in doing your research prior to modeling a Tiger.  The book uses the photo's to tell the story of the Tiger's in WWII.   Each chapter covers a specific battalion, detailing it's operational history and locations, logistical data, and paint/numbering scheme.  A must buy.

Panzer Colors by Bruce Culver/Bill Murphy. Squadron/Signal Publications, 95 pages, soft cover.  - There are 3 books that make up this set.  Book I covers the "Camouflage of the German Forces from 1939 to 1945".  In addition to detailed information, each page contains 2 to 3 period black & white photographs to help tell the story.  It covers things like methods of application and how camouflage changed throughout the war.  A must buy for anyone who models.

Panzer Colors II by Bruce Culver. Squadron/Signal Publications, 95 pages, soft cover.  - Book II in the series covers the "Markings of the German Forces from 1939 to 1945".  It covers items like the national insignia, vehicle numbers, divisional signs/symbols/insignias, tactical signs, license plates, service numbers, victory markings, command and rank pennants, vehicle names, and award shields/crests.   To tell the story, the book uses a combination of text, period black & white photographs, line drawings, and color artwork.  The book is a must  buy if you want to add those little details that make an average model, outstanding.

Panzer Colors III by Bruce Culver. Squadron/Signal Publications, 95 pages, soft cover.  - Book III in the series covers the "Markings of the German Forces from 1939 to 1945".  It covers how each division,  battalion or unit actually used and applied the markings detailed in Book II.  Like that book, Book III uses a combination of text, period black & white photographs, line drawings, and color artwork to tell the story.  The book is another must  buy if you want to add those little details that make an average model, outstanding.
